It has been my passion to serve the music students of Chipley High School for the past 10 years.  I intend to continue my vocation of positively influencing the lives of our young people by teaching life skills through the art of music.

Music education is not a frill or icing on the academic cake.  Music education is a vital part of becoming educated and preparing for life.  Creative and critical thinking, problem solving, and personal responsibility are taught every day.  These lessons are inherent in every music class and skills that will be advantageous to students long after high school.  In addition, students learn interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and influence a group to work together toward a common goal for their common good.

Every student will gain an appreciation of music and become informed consumers in their long lasting enjoyment of music.  The goal is that each student will become the finest player he/she is capable of becoming.  Through the process of progressing as an individual player and a member of the performing group, each student will gain an understanding of how music is put together as a composition. You will also gain a respect for great performers and performances as we discover the demands of great music on the individual in preparing and performing.

As students work together over these high school years, friendships and bonds develop.  The goal of the “Spirit of the Tiger” Band is to help in developing interpersonal skills and to assist individuals through the difficulties of adolescence by helping build self esteem and self-confidence.  Friendships and fond memories are a product of the band as surely as the performance and enjoyment of music is.

Band Program Objectives

The Chipley High School Band Program has four primary objectives:

1.      Educational: To develop interested and discriminating listeners and provide a well-rounded musical background.

2.      Service: To lend color and atmosphere to certain athletic and community events, while promoting and enhancing the dignity and reputation of the school at all appearances.

3.      Recreational: To provide all students at the school with an opportunity to be more involved in high school, for a worthy use of leisure time and good social experiences.

4.      Fun: To work hard, enjoy learning, and have fun. The students are given opportunities they may never have in other settings, while enjoying the true meaning of music and performance.
