Band Ensembles
The “Spirit of the Tiger” Marching Band is composed of students in grades 9-12 who qualify musically. This organization serves as the primary performing group for our school at football games, pep rallies, parades, etc. Marching Band is co-curricular, meaning that activities after school are an extension of regular band classes during the school day. Marching season begins in August and runs through November and requires a good deal of work. Students are encouraged to choose extra-curricular activities carefully so that a conflict does not arise with marching band. Students will be enrolled in a band class during the school day to participate in marching band.
The Symphonic Band is composed of students in grades 9-12 who qualify musically and are seated by audition. Symphonic Band is co-curricular, meaning that activities after school are an extension of regular band classes during the school day. This ensemble has a limited number of after school rehearsals, generally on Mondays during February. This organization serves as the primary performing group during the spring.
Small Ensembles and Solos will be possible during the winter and spring for students wishing to study and perform in concerts and/or District Solo & Ensemble Festival. Students may also audition for District and State Honor Bands during the year.
ALL STUDENTS MUST MAINTAIN A 2.0 OVERALL GRADE POINT AVERAGE TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY BAND ACTIVITY.
Public Appearances
The Chipley High Band operates on the premise that the music program exists for the purpose of educating students in music through practice and performance, and not for the exploitation of the students. While it is true that we owe a service to the school and community, it is our conviction that the health and welfare of the student comes first.
It is the member’s actions that create the reputation of the group. When performing, you are a representative of Chipley and CHS - you are expected to act accordingly.
