The Chipley High School Band was formed in 1937 under the direction of the school’s music teacher, Annie Merle Benson. 75 years later, the “Spirit of the Tiger” Band maintains a tradition of excellence in performance and artistry. The band is currently under the direction of Mr. Richard L. Davenport, who came to CHS in 1999.
The CHS Band participates in the annual Florida Bandmasters Association District and State Assessments events. The band has been rated Superior at FBA events for the past 18 years, with numerous other awards and commendations earned as well. The CHS Band performed as a featured band at the 2006 Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic at Troy University, the 2011 Florida Inaugural Parade and has performed throughout the southeast.
